GMO Labeling System
| * trademark application filed |
ICON GENETICS has developed a standardized procedure for encoding information in a DNA of a living organism: we label genetically modified plants by including into GM organism's genome, next to the transgene, a DNA-encoded technical information message. Such a message is based on an artificial code; it can be easily retrieved and read, and it stores sufficient technical information.
We propose a version of such a labeling (DNA 'bar-coding') as an universal coding standard for GM organisms to be released into an environment. An optimal structure of such an infomation locus as well as an optimized encryption protocol have been developed. Our clients will be provided with a simple protocol and a kit that allows to easily incorporate this labeling system in your transformation program.

"Nec vero terrae ferre omnes omnia possunt"
("Neither Can Every Soil Bear Every Fruit...", (Vergil, "Georgica", 2, 109)
- this Latin phrase from Vergil is probably the first self-multiplying sentence written by humans,
reproducing as a part of normal plant reproduction.
